The Inspiration of Ana Sui Designs

Anna Sui has succeeded in reaching the top of the fashion business through a lot of hard work and determination. She is even included in Time Magazine's list of five most important fashion gurus of this decade. This amazing person was born in Detroit in 1955 and moved to New York City after she graduated from high school. Anna Sui enrolled at the prestigious Parsons School of Design and went on to work as a stylist for Steven Meisel, the fashion photographer.

Anna Sui found her own style after designing clothes as a young woman being inspired by the models in magazines. Throughout the 1980's, she developed her designing business and was ready to put on her first runway show in 1991. Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista modeled her work at these shows.

She launched her own clothing line the following year and opened the first of her boutiques in New York City. Anna Sui would eventually establish boutiques in Tokyo, Osaka, Hollywood and Los Angeles. Her popularity is huge in Japan, and she has even designed the costumes for a Japanese style animation series.

Her collection is sold in over thirty countries, and commands premium price tags as befits a top designer label. The range of dresses in her collection has a contemporary feel about them. Anna Sui says she was inspired by the rock chic look. She also designs accessories such as bags and belts. The endorsement of an impressive list of celebrities including Madonna, Christina Ricci, Cher, Courtney Love and Patricia Arquette sealed her status as an elite designer.

Her footwear collection was launched in 1997. Shoes, boots and sandals are available as casual day wear and for formal, evening occasions. She uses several different materials used, including silk, suede, patent leather, velvet, and snake and lizard skin. Two years later, the Anna Sui fragrance, aftershave and cosmetics line came out. The fragrance bottles are particularly inventive, and include a butterfly shape and a mannequin head design.

Consumers can order her collection online, and there are sales items posted on the web site dedicated to her work. Anna Sui is always open about the source of her ideas, and still keeps an eye on what's in the magazines, mixing that with some classic looks from the past. She continues to bring out her collections, drawing from different inspirational ideas each time, and her shows are always well received.
